Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I bring a date?

Due to limited space, we can only accommodate those guests who have been formally invited on the wedding invitation. If you received a plus one, they will appear under your name when you RSVP.

Can we bring our children?

Invitations will be specific and will include the names of any children who have been invited. However, we encourage you to use this evening as a "date night" for yourself!

Can I stay at the venue?

We will notify guests of available rooms at the venue after Save The Dates are sent. However, due to a limited capacity at the wedding venue itself, please refer to our Accomodation tab for other options.

Is there a dress code?

We'd love to see our family and friends dress up with us! We are requesting your best formal attire for the evening. No jeans, t-shirts or sneakers, please! Women, please refrain from wearing white or shades of white as to not coincide with the bride.

What happens if I don't RSVP in time?

If we do not get an RSVP back by the date which we have provided, it will be marked as "Not able to attend". We will surely miss you at our wedding and celebrating this happy occasion with us, however, we have to provide total guest counts to the venue in a timely manner and cannot accept late RSVPs due to this. We hope you understand.

Can we take photos during the ceremony?

As we will have photographers at the wedding, we have a strict rule of no photographs or videos to be taken during the wedding ceremony. To put it simply, we don't want to see any phones out in our lovely photographs! However, during the evening celebrations, feel free to take as many pictures as you like and share them with us using the hashtag: #ShahsSince2024

Can we bring gifts for the bride and groom?

The most important thing to us is that you are able to celebrate with us on our wedding day. We are extremely lucky to have love, laughter and house full of furniture, so if you wish to give a gift we will gratefully accept contributions towards our honeymoon and our first house. More information can be found on our Gifting page.

Can we pay for drinks, etc. using cash?

As of May 1st 2021, Balbirnie House has been a fully cashless venue. Therefore, please make any payments in the venue by card or contactless as no cash will be accepted.

Is there anywhere for people to smoke?

There will be specific smoking zones that are designated for any smokers that attend our wedding. These will be pointed out to those who wish to do so while at the venue. Anyone who is smoking cigarettes or e-cigarettes should be at least 5m away from any doors or windows to conform to Scottish law.
